Once you have conducted a risk assessment and have your OHS Policies in place, the next step is to develop specific Work Method Statements or WMS's/SWP's.
Developing WMS's is a matter of breaking down the actions required to perform a task or operate a piece of machinery safely.
A well developed Work Method Statement will outline what Safety Equipment needs to be used, what pre-start checks need to be conducted, how to do the work and what to do upon completion. These are fundemental basics that every WMS needs to include. In order for these areas to specific, it is best if the process is performed during development and relevant industry practises are reviewed. Additional information can also be sourced from Australian Standards, the machinery manufacturer's safe operation recommendations and relevant government adivisory bodies, such as Industrial Relations and WorkCover (WorkSafe).
